Allen Yu reviews Fall of Reach

The main conflict of this book is the fact that humanity is under threat from alien invaders. At the start of the novel, 74 children were selected to train for the project SPARTAN 2, who were named after the famous 300 Spartan stand against Xerxe’s empire. As those kids grew, their training neared an end, as they were physically augmented, to make them faster and stronger. Originally, they were trained to fight a rebellion force named Insurrections, but as an alien race destroys an entire planet, their mission was changed to stopping the alien invaders.
I believe that this character Is very fake, as most people aren’t that mentally strong. He brushes defeats and injuries aside easily and overcomes them.“He dived into the bunker and took out 20 covenants by himself.”(132) This shows his bravery. Throughout the entire book, he puts the mission and its success over the safety of his life. Originally, the main character, John, was scared of many things, but as he grew older, he became bold.“He knew the exercise was only the cover”(76)John was very intelligent, knowing many things by looking at the deeper meanings. Because of this, he was able to uncover many plots against the UNSC.“Ignoring the pain, he continued fighting.” (198)This shows that the main character is very strong-willed. He disregards any distractions and fulfills his task.

I would recommend this book for science fiction/action/adventure loving audiences, as this book covers all 3 categories.
Overall, I thought this book was very interesting, as I’m a science fiction fan.

  1. "He brushes defeats and injuries aside easily and overcomes them" This might not be a trait??

  2. From Haley Lan:

    1. "The main conflict of this book is the fact that humanity is under threat from alien invaders"
    start off too vague.

    2. "Overall, I thought this book was very interesting, as I’m a science fiction fan."
Explain more. What do you think was interesting in the book?

    3. "At the start of the novel, 74 children were selected to train for the project SPARTAN 2"
    Not clear.

I think your essay was overall pretty good, because it's hard to explain the plot of this book.

I might read this book although Im not a science fiction fan.

"...but as an alien race destroys an entire planet, their mission was changed to stopping the alien invaders." Stopping to stop.

    "UNSC" What is UNSC?

"Citations" They should be (Author #). In your case (Nylund 132). You didn't mention the author's name in the review. :(

I like how you think the character is very fake. Unlike other people, you actually chose the opposing side. It was very fun to read how you disprove the main character.

Overall, I like your book review. From your outline, this book sounds like a good read to me. Because I beat the video game Halo 3 on legendary mode, I think I will space some time of mine to read this book. Interesting review!
