Part 2: Examples of the American Dream (Individual)

Please copy and paste quotes, photos, or even short (under 5 minutes) film clips that you think exemplify the American Dream. Explain your source and include a link to it.

After everyone is done, then comment on two other examples, comparing and contrasting them with your own.

    I think American Dream symbolizes the hope and happiness to the American citizens. But not only it is a hope to teh Americans, it is also a tradition to them, so it shows that it is a very importatn idea for the people.

    Becoming rich is the American Dream. In this photo, the man is wearing MONEY glasses holding big bucks. This is the most classic way of interpreting the American Dream.

    This is a picture of the American Flag knit into a hand signal of the peace sign. I choose this picture because our definition says that "It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position." I chose this picture to show that the American dream pursued more of equality and less of luxury. The picture was knit by strings instead of other luxurious fabrics.

    This quote shows the individual achievements in life, besides getting and job and buying a big house. But also, a chance to make a change to yourself or the surrounding.

    TO be sucessful in business(jobs), to have a big house, to have a awesome spouse and to be rich a famous is all part of the American dream.

  17. Yerry: I don't really agree with your example for your picture. Although family is very important, the American Dream has nothing to do with it. The American Dream is to become rich and famous, not becoming closer to one's family. Mine was different from yours, as I have stated the American Dream is mainly about gaining more money.

    I think this picture is really funny in a way and it shows that Americans really want to rich. But this picture somewhat shows the negative side of the American Dream. BUT still good job lol :P

    Being rich is only a part of the american dream.
    to be happy is also a big part of it. Some things cannot be brought by money. like friends and family (and hot wife or husband :P);these are also a big part of the american dream.

    I like the picture you posted, I think it shows the happy life that the kid is living, and shows a hopeful future of the Americans. Although being rich is important, but having a happy life is more important.

  24. Haley: I don't completely agree with your choice of lottery as the American Dream. In my opinion, the American Dream is to earn money through hard work. Lottery cannot be considered as hard work, if any work at all. Although my example also has something to do with money, it doesn't have anything to do with earning money by chance.

    Richard- Nice picture. The US flag is very clear. The big farm and the big house very fit the definition of Amercian dream.

    I agree with your post. Yes, it must be hard for the poor to reach such a level that would take years to obtain. But dreams doesn't always have to be in wealth, however, a simple life is more fulfill enough. :)

    I think this quote is really interesting because it is saying that the american dream is not a common standard but instead is different for everyone. This make achieving the american dream easier:D

    I liked the cute picture you posted to represent the American Dream--showing how the American Dream is more than having a successful life, but showing how happy they can be with their family. My quote is different perspectives of the American Dream but yours is focused on family love.
