What would I do without him to constantly make me laugh? I wonder how plain and boring my days would be lacking his pranks and teases. Tim and I have been friends for 13 years, and each day he provides me with amusement and fun.
At one point in his life, Tim kept a pet tarantula, affectionately called “Kiwi”. Whenever I visit him, I would keep my distance: that furry, black mass with legs sticking all over the place was not a pretty sight to behold. One day, I was over at his house, when Tim suddenly went over to the cage and carried the monstrous spider to me. “Lady Kiwi, meet my best friend Wendy”, he mimicked in a high, squeaky voice. At my frightened scream, he chased me around the house until I fell back exhaustedly in a chair and covered my face-the imagined feeling of a spider crawling on my skin giving me goose bumps. Fortunately, Tim was only trying to give me a scare, or else I wouldn’t be alive to tell this tale.
Our favorite pastime together is baking. I, the experienced chef, would order him around. At first, everything would be calm and tidy. Then at his shout, “the war has begun!”, Tim would start flicking flour at me and rubbing cookie dough on my face. “I hate you” would come out of my clenched teeth before I avenge myself and attack him. The war doesn’t last long though, for soon enough the heavenly smell of warm butter and cinnamon would float from the oven right to our noses. True, making cookies alone and in peace would be nice, but baking with a clumsy and naughty friend is fun in a different way.
Despite the irritation that he sometimes causes me, Tim brings joy and laughter into my life. He showed me that the love of friends not only is shown through hugs and sweet encouragements, it can also be known through making someone you amused and feeling like every day is interesting and exciting with your friends around.

Wendyyy! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sentence is: "Whenever I visit him, I would keep my distance: that furry, black mass with legs sticking all over the place was not a pretty sight to behold." I like that there's a bit of humour in how you describe the spider.
For the part: "but baking with a clumsy and naughty friend is fun in a different way," you can maybe explain how it's different.
I like your two memories with your friend though! They really show how good friends you guys are. :)

ReplyDelete"Despite the irritation that he sometimes causes me, Tim brings joy and laughter into my life."
Great way you put it in.
"Our favorite pastime together is baking."
The transition from the spider to baking is a bit sudden, maybe you could start it with "Another favorite pastime.." Also change "is" to "was"
Overall, great essay, liked how you described Tim with specific examples.
I love this line: "The war doesn’t last long though, for soon enough the heavenly smell of warm butter and cinnamon would float from the oven right to our noses." It is really descriptive and it makes me hungery :D
ReplyDeleteIn the middle of your first paragraph, you suddenly change to another story so it was sort of strange. It doesn't connect, so maybe you should somehow add a transition inbetween.
Overall, I loved your essay--it made me laugh and smile because it reminds me of those times where I baked with my sister.
