Book Report Project
The book, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riodran, is about a boy named Percy Jackson and he got kicked out of a lot of boarding school because he has learning and reading disorders. One day at the museum, Percy was called out by Mrs. Dodds, the math teacher, and she attacked him. Mr. Brunner, his Latin teacher, tossed him a pen and it became a sword. Percy then slashed Mrs.Dodds and she disappeared. Later he finds out he is a demi god, half human and half god, so he gets taken to the Camp Half-Blood, a place for young demi gods. Percy finds out his father is Poseidon, and Zeus believes that Poseidon used Percy to steal his thunder bolt. Zeus gives Percy a deadline to return the thunderbolt or else Zeus would start war on Poseidon. Then the adventure begins.
Percy Jackson is troubled kid. He has troubles in school, such as dyslexia and attention deficit disorder, causing him to get kicked out of many schools. “…the fact that I have dyslexia and an attention deficit disorder and I have never made above a C- in my life” (Riordan, 7) Even though he has problems with his academic life, he is a very strong willed and brave person. “Anger replaced my fear. Newfound strength burned in my limbs…” (Riordan, 53) The quote is from when he was fighting a Minotaur to save his mom. It shows how he loses his fear when it is needed and a new strength occurs within him, making him a very strong willed and brave person. Not only is he a brave person, he is also very protective of his mom. “You deserve better than this, mom. You should go to college, get your degree…You don’t need to protect me anymore by staying with Gabe. Let me get rid of him.” (Riordan, 352) This exemplifies how he is very kind to his mom and wants to protect her instead of being protected, which also shows how mature he is. Overall, he is a very believable character. He is brave, kind and mature. He is willing to risk his life to save others and protect his family. Even though, his magical abilities are not as believable, but his personality and morality is. Another important character in this book is, Annabeth. Annabeth is the daughter of Athena, goddess of wisdom and battle. She later accompanies Percy on his adventure. Annabeth is a very strong and adventurous girl. “I’ve been waiting a long time for a quest, seaweed brain,’ she said. Athena is no fan of Poseidon, but if you’re going to save the world, I’m the best person to keep you from messing up.” (Riordan, 148) The quote exemplifies how she is a very strong person and is willing to save the world. Annabeth is a pretty believable person. She is brave and strong but she has her weak spots too. She is very fragile about her dad since she hasn’t seen her dad since she was little.” I haven’t seen him since I was very small.” (Riordan, 95) All those qualities, except her magical abilities, are very believable.
This book would be recommended to people who likes mythology, supernatural and adventure. It is filled with action, love and mystery. So it is highly recommended to people who like those genres. Overall, I loved the book. It was a great read and gave me a very enjoyable experience. Since I love Greek mythology and supernatural abilities, this is the perfect book and series for me. So in the future I would be reading the rest of the books and hopefully enjoy them as well.

ReplyDelete"The book, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riodran, is about a boy named Percy Jackson and he got kicked out of a lot of boarding school because he has learning and reading disorders"
- Maybe you could take out "the book" and just say "The Lightning Thief, written by Rick Riodran, is about..."
- Instead of "... and he got kicked out of..." use "... that got kicked out.."
"Then the adventure begins."
- Since the "adventure" was caused by stuff you mentioned before maybe you could use "Thus" or something.
"Percy Jackson is troubled kid."
- "Percy Jackson is a troubled kid."
"Even though, his magical abilities are not as believable, but his personality and morality is."
- "Even though his magical abilities are not as believable, his personality and morality are."
I liked how you made it really clear which type of audience would enjoy the book and you summarized the story really fast in the beginning so we get the main idea of the whole book. This seems like it could be a pretty interesting read :)
