This is a picture of the American Flag knit into a hand signal of the peace sign. I choose this picture because our definition says that "It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position." I chose this picture to show that the American dream pursued more of equality and less of luxury. The picture was knit by strings instead of other luxurious fabrics.

TO be sucessful in business(jobs), to have a big house, to have a awesome spouse and to be rich a famous is all part of the American dream.

Yerry: I don't really agree with your example for your picture. Although family is very important, the American Dream has nothing to do with it. The American Dream is to become rich and famous, not becoming closer to one's family. Mine was different from yours, as I have stated the American Dream is mainly about gaining more money.

to be happy is also a big part of it. Some things cannot be brought by money. like friends and family (and hot wife or husband :P);these are also a big part of the american dream.

ReplyDeleteI like the picture you posted, I think it shows the happy life that the kid is living, and shows a hopeful future of the Americans. Although being rich is important, but having a happy life is more important.
Haley: I don't completely agree with your choice of lottery as the American Dream. In my opinion, the American Dream is to earn money through hard work. Lottery cannot be considered as hard work, if any work at all. Although my example also has something to do with money, it doesn't have anything to do with earning money by chance.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your post. Yes, it must be hard for the poor to reach such a level that would take years to obtain. But dreams doesn't always have to be in wealth, however, a simple life is more fulfill enough. :)
